Gallows humor" by Tony Nilsson: My first thought about the title of this painting was, "The hangman doesn't hang anymore" but, the closer I got to the final, I started to swing over and got a more gallows humoristic perspective on the painting. In short, when the painting was finished (without smileys), I felt that it was too gloomy, it needed - smileys. As so many times in the past, my paintings can take a completely different direction when I am faced with the last brush stroke. Perhaps it is an act of defiance in the midst of an ongoing pandemic.
