Veruschka and Gordon Parks New York - Photography The picture was taken in New York in 1965. Photographer and filmmaker Gordon Parks and one of the first supermodels, Verushka, met by chance in Leif-Erik Nygård's studio in Carnegie Hall. Gordon Parks documented social injustice, racism, and segregation in the United States while doing fashion reports for Vogue. Verushka was born a German countess, Vera von Lehndorff-Steinort, on an East Prussian estate. Her father was an officer, joined the German resistance and was one of those executed after the failed attempt on Hitler in July 1944. The family was forced to watch the execution and Verushka, her sisters and mother spent the rest of the war in labor camps. Verushka and Leif-Erik Nygårds became friends when both were young and broke in New York. In the same year that the picture was taken, Gordon Parks traveled to London to photograph Winston Churchill's funeral and Verushka went to London to shoot the film "Blow up" by Michelangelo Antonioni. Gordon Parks later directed the feature film "The learning tree" and "Shaft", the first so-called blaxploitation film. He directed, wrote, composed music and is today considered one of America's most important photographers. - We had a special contact, he was raised among Swedish descendants in Kansas. I really liked him and we became friends. The soft colors enhance the feeling of optimism and intimacy in the image. The photograph is sold in an exclusive edition of 25 copies where each copy is signed and numbered. - FAQ
