Helsingborg ferry terminal" - Photography A snapshot from the ferry terminal in Helsingborg in July 1962, photographed by Ola Terje. In 1952 passport freedom was introduced between the Nordic countries, travel across the Sound steadily increased and more and more operators began to operate the route between Helsingborg and Helsingør. The port needed to expand and in 1962 Sydhamnen was inaugurated by Gustav VI Adolf. Sydhamnen doubled the port's capacity and made it Sweden's second largest port, only Gothenburg's was larger. It is during this expansive period that the concept of "tura" is born - to stay on the ferry between Denmark and Sweden and enjoy good food and drink. - FAQ
